I have just purchased a Prem with factory air, however the compressor has no belt attached. The previous owner said he never wanted air so never connected it (he also bouight it that way he said). The compressor seems to spin OK (it isn't the old AC type), will I do any damage if I hook up a belt and try to see if the system is working ok? I would assume at the very least it'll need a regas, but if the system is dry will running it damage anything?
Thanks
Peter

The fluid/gas acts as a lubricant, so unless you're sure it's charged, then I wouldn't run it.

Thanks Steve, problem is there's no way of knowing if it's gassed, and I don't want to spend the $ regassing this system if there's faults in the compressor/dryer etc meaning it needs to be pulled apart to rectify. I guess I'll need a new receiver/dryer

Take it to an air con shop and get some guages put on it to see if there is any gas in it and how much. You never know, spend a couple of bucks for a few minutes of their time and you may end up with working air con.

If the system has not been used for a long time the seals on the compressor have proibably dried out and leaked the fluid. But most likely you won't harm anything, just it wont work. Might as well get the compressor rebuilt. If there are bubbles in the wi
