Does anyone know whether the complete power steering from a vl v8 commodore will bolt straight on to a vh 253 that has aircon pump and alt mounted on the drivers side,I have the chance to buy a whole setup with rack and hoses for 80.00 from a VL

The VL rack will not fit the early crossmembers - the mounts are in different locations.
If you get the whole lot off the VL, grab the VL crossmember too, and you can replace yours, and use the VL rack that way.

all racks from vb-vl are exactly the same they change at vn

Nope, the rack changed with the introduction of the VL, and the VL-VP racks are physically identical from the outside.
VB-VK are interchangeable with each other, but not with VL-VP.

Hi Guys.
Commodorenut is spot on. The VB-VK are made by TRW & while they have small internal changes & upgrades are all interchangable.
The VL was the first of the new Bendix-Bishop variable ratio racks. This style of rack does all VL/

Yep that's how I understand it too. I have a complete setup from a VK Berlina if you're interested. The rack has been reconditioned and is bolted to a K frame that I'll throw in. Includes the rack, pump, reservoir and steering column. Looking for $120

Then again.....VP onwards racks will fit into VN (with intermediate shaft swap) but the tie rod ends have a different taper to VN tie rod ends :-(
