Anyone able to highlight some pros and cons of stroking a Holden red straight 6. I've noticed Byrant Engineering in Queensland are now producing 227 ci stroker kits- sounds very interesting!

More torque...can legally put it in more engine bays..ie a V8 LC is harder to pass engineering but a stroked six will sail thru.

They cut and weld a 221 crank to a 149/179HP/186S rear flange, usually using a 186 block. Personally I reckon you're better off using a 265 Hemi engine, and painting it red trying to disguise it as a red 6. The only hassle is building a custum sump, as th

what about the chevy 6cyl, seen one running 11`s in an old holden at the drags a few years ago. Could hardly spot the difference, most onlookers called it a 186 conversion ! are they 4 - 5 litre ? I know they are big...with some nice carbs...

If it's the blue flame you're talking about these are around 3.8 litres I think (231 cubes??). My '57 has one but I've never bothered to find out what it is. There used to be a lot of hotrod stuff for these around, much like there was for the old grey mot

Did you mean the 250 (or thereabouts) cube Chev 6 that was released in some South Afircan Holdens? It is supposed to look like a slightly overgrown Red motor. I've never seen one in the flesh, but in the pics I saw a long time ago, I had to look really, r

Byron got it right, the one im on about is the 292 ci truck motor. The one in the pic above normally aspirated runs 9.91 sec and that was back in 91 ! So dont let the word truck put you off. Probably the same kind of motor that you are speaking of althoug

these chevvy 6 cyls. come in a range of capacities, the 4.1 l,(250ci)that i have come across were fitted to Hyster forklifts in the early 80's. yes, you have to look twice they do very closly resemble a blue 202, just bigger.

Stroking has me a little fasinated, I keep thinking back to the older day that my grand fater talked about. Most aussie still loved the crown of England back then so a lot of Brittish cars were on the road, these had long stroke motors and were slow on th

A 202 is a stroked 186. Which is better for speedway? I know the 202 was a more effective touring car engine. Perhaps that will answer your question. Another example is a 350 Chev stroked to 3.75 inch. Is a 350 or 377/383 better for speedway?

generally the more cubes the better. In a speedway situation you are usually limited by engine sizes and the amount of work you can do to the motor etc depending on the class.

If you have the 202 it will get out of corners better (more torque) and you

70 ute,

The guy at Action Cranks is "Bob". Ph-02 9756 3840.
Last time I spoke with him I jotted down some notes:
He decks the blocks because they can be anywhere up to 0.20" out. So I'm presuming it's assembled as a Short when you get it.
He Closes
