I'm after a set of heads for a blue 253 to get my runabout running smooth again. What price should I be looking at paying? How common are they to get? Has anyone got some for sale? Cheers Cocko

I paid $80.00 for mine and got them of this site. I then spent $750.00 to get them cleaned up, hardened inserts, reseated and a small amount of bowl work done.

Makes the run about 253 red motor purr!

There have been a few on ebay lately too...

Hi gmholdenman

The Brock (& Police etc) & 304 unleaded heads have larger valves, all others have same as 253.

Not all Blue heads are the same. There are 2 types of blue head, early Post pollution and late post pollution. The difference between them is the location of the EGR ports.

You CANNNOT interchange the 2 types of blue head so make sure you check wh

Hi Dre.

There are two basic types of RED head (ignoring HT/HG type alternator mounts)& only one basic type of Blue/Black head (ignoring EFI)

Early Reds (up to 6/76) have no exhaust crossover ports (for EGR etc). Late Red heads (7/76 to 3/8

Yes but they continued to use these red pollution heads on blue motors so there are 2 types of blue head.

If for examble you have a WB kingswood, you have the U shaped blue EGR style heads. If you were to try and install an inlet manifold from sa

Hi Dre.

I'm sorry, but that's simply not the case, these are just red heads, painted blue.

Late red heads (76-80) have U-shaped ports & all blue/black have square ports.

The easy way to identify them is to give me the part no. &

I'll have a look over the w/e and right down the casting dates etc

I'll also have a look through my workshop manuals cause I'm sure thats where I saw this info too.

Dr Terry is 100% correct. Discussions like these make it easy to see how BS stories become 'facts'. It makes you wonder about correct history ie Rome, the bible, etc, really is......

Well I had a look at the heads over the w/e but was unable to determine how old they are.

I can see what looks like a clock face with an arrow in the middle, but apart from that, where abouts are the markings and how do I decipher them???
