Will have a look at my motors and see what number ranges you should be after. I would get Sydney built would differ from QLD or Vic Motors too.

Hi Guys.

An HQ 253 should start with QR, & for 1974 should be around the 300000 serial number.

All engines are made in Melbourne on the one line using one numbering system, there are no Qld or NSW motors.

Its only a guess, but I'd be looking for a block around the QR470nnn to QR485nnn range.

I have 2x 253's Aug'73 and Jun'74. Hence the rough number range for you, assuming production runs are sequential.

Cheers, John

Yes Chris they are both in complete working cars. My wife thinks I'm a bit of a nut, mid-life crisis etc.

I can check a local wrecker if you want. They have some "red" motors in there right now. Where are you ? What city/State ?

Echuca Vic, Thanks for the help. I am going to take a long shot today, The orig engine was swapped for a reco in 97 at a small engine reconditioner so I am going to try and track it. Long shot but I will have a go . Thanks Chris
