Was the 253 ever available with powerglide in the HT ? The brochures I have don't mention it. And 308 powerglides, are they rare, since they were only a combination in the HT, I believe.

As a HK-T-G guru, I have never known of a Powerglide 253 in a HT-G. As far as I know all Holden 253 and 308 HT-G's ran Trimatics. However, a later block (eg HJ-X-Z) could theoretically come from the factory with a Chev bolt pattern to fit TH350/400 boxes

The car in question is a HT Premier sedan and I believe the 308/Powerglide is original. A mate bought it that way over 20 years ago, and it sat at the farm. I've got the column gear indicator in by collection.Kids smashed all the glass, so the interior

Hi Guys.
253 with Powerglides are rare, but GM-H did make them.
All HT Broughams for instance are 308 Powerglide.
The Powerglide they use is not the 1 piece Chev Powerglide, it's the 6 cyl version (with the bolt-on bellhousing), then the

Does this mean that the 6cylinder and V8 Powerglides share the same internals and thus a 6 cyl Powerglide could handle the grunt of say, a worked 400 Chev? Regardless the Powerglide is a great box and as a young fella I beat many a Ford V8 off the line wi

Hi Guys.
No, the internals are different.
The planetary gearset is not as strong & has a slightly lower (higher numerically) ratio.
From memory the 6 cyl/253/308 ratio is 1.82 & the Chevs have a 1.76 ratio 1st gear.
Still a

That's not quite true either. The 253 was also available with a Saginaw 4-speed in HT and HG.

I remember helping a mate convert a HK Prem from a 186 and powerglide to a 308 and powerglide from a donor HT. As the HT uses a different crossmember mount I remember we had hell's time making the box fit. The 253/308 powerglide uses the 6cyl case, with a

I can back up that at least the HT Monaro had the 253/powerglide option. Goes surprisingly well!

The 3-speed manual is the standard gearbox behind a 253 in most HT and HG Holdens. A few variants had a Saginaw as standard though. Without looking it, up a trimatic may be standard fitment in a HG Premier - can't remember for sure though. |
