Hq-WB vehicles fitted with powersteering all have the same length steering arms as all the HQ-HJ range of vehicles had and HX-HZ-WB vehicles without powersteering all had longer steering arms, am I right so far? These steering arms where only increased in length on the steering side/tie rod side not the stop side which with both arms long and short are indentical in measurements, am I still right so far?? If I am correct then the reason for Holden to increase the length of the steering arms for non powersteering vehicles was to basically assist with steering by increasing the 20:1 box to a 25:1 and the 16:1 to a 20:1 (wich was dropped early in the HZ series)when fitted with the longer arms. My question is then, why does everyone on e-bay who sells these short arms keep saying that these are a must have item for the powersteering conversion as they will make the turning circle smaller. How can this be possible as the dimensions on the long arm and the short arm is identical on the side that stops against the lower control arm, so how can a short arm assist with a smaller turning circle then a long arm?? Wouldn't all that would happen if you converted your car over to powersteering and left the long arms fitted would be the steering would be slightly easier then a car with short arms due to the princples of leverage as one arm cannot physically go any further around then the other due to the stop on the lower control arm? Sellers are even claiming that they have these fitted to there cars and they're great!! I have had people say that there where two different ratio powersteering boxes?? but when it was tried to be explained to them that the powersteering box is a variable ratio and they probably had longer arms fitted to the car that they thought had a lighter/different ratio box to the other that they compared it with, but the turning circle would have remained the same,, wouldn't it????? Cheers TD

Whew! That's quite a novel there TD... :-) OK, you are right in that the power steer (and all HQ) arms are shorter betwen the front bolt-hole and the tie-rod hole. They are about 91 mm from centre to centre. I'm not sure EXACTLY when Holden introdu Edited by user Saturday, 23 September 2006 9:51:03 AM(UTC)

Hi Guys.
You've pretty well covered most of it, but I can clarify a few small points. The longer steering arms need to be pushed & pulled further by the drag link to reach the steering stops & the power steer box won't turn far enough, so the shorter a |

Bingo on the alignment getting done by a steering specialist. I paid $80 to get my EH set up and the aligner was working on it for an hour and 15mins. He knew exactly what to do based on the front end, stub axles, fact that a rack has been fitted and the |
