Thanks to the guys for your advice. Aaron the channel 2 (ABC) 7/9/10 are VHF, SBS and 31 are UHF.
Your point about the amplifier is noted. The reception for the UHF stations is poor, SBS I can just get colour in but its pretty spotty, 31 I can only get in B/W and no sound. The direction of the antenna is about the same as the neighbours but I am going to replace it anyway as it's 10 years old and pretty crappy at the box where the leads connect, also it is only about 9 or 10 elements so that won't help, and being only a mile from the ocean we get all the salty corrosion.

Boat/cruiser TV antennas work a little differently than standard house ones.
I would have thought that they may be set up to work in poor reception areas...

Make sure you use co-axial antenna cable. It gives much better reception than that of ribbon cable, you may need to get a separate UHF antenna for SBS, you can also buy VHF/UHF combos.

Well I bought a new antenna today it is supposed to be a medium-fring one as i didn't want to overpower it and have ghosting problems I get them anyway.
It has anade a big difference, can now get #! and also SBSand ch.2 are much clearer, still have to li
