hi folks,
Seems my HZ might need a new/reco alternator as it has trouble keeping batteries charged and I've already replaced the battery twice and left it on charge with not much result.
I have a good alternator sitting on the shelf of a VS SS commodore and naturally has all the extra wiring locations and extras the early types don't have. My question is can I use the late model alternator on an HZ and where does the wiring go and which do I ignore and leave unhooked up. Or... just get the standard one fixed up, it's just that I had the other one already in the garage! Any ideas or advice appreciated.
cheers,
Ben

I asked the same question at motortraders yesterday , I was told they are now recomending VN V8 85amp units and converting the wires to fit by an auto sparky for older cars , VS V8 may be the same but don`t quote me on it.

I can't really answer the question as I haven't tried it, but in relation to what cloudy mentioned, my VSII V8 has the same 85A alternator as fitted to the VN V8, which is also the same as the VN V6 one apart from the pulley, the front casing (bolt holes

You also need to swap the pulley over the Vn one is the serpentine belt type.
Just unbolt the nut, swap pulleys, the old one goes straight on

If they are anything like the bosch alternators on similar age Falcons then the plug that looks like an injector plug has two wires. One of these wires is a normal field wire which is switched with the ignition & the other has an always live 12v feed

Hi Guys.

If you use the VN-VS V8 type it bolts straight on. All you have to do is run 1 extra wire .

Buy a 2-pin EFI plug kit, 1 pin connects to your original thin brown wire that feeds the alternator light on the dash & the 2nd wire conne
