Was reading through previous posts about diffs, VK's to be more specific. I have no idea what diff is in my VK Calais 308, built end of 85. As far as i know, and as far as the previous owner knows who had it for ages, it never had a tag on the filler to tell if it was LSD. How can i tell what it is, borg or sals? No empty plug, just the filler, and lots of bolts round the outside, might sound a bit stupid but thats all i know. I was thinking that its a borg?? any ideas??

Your diff will be a salsbury and the common ratio for manual is 3.08, Auto 2.60. Probably not a lsd unless maybe an SS.

The VK 6 Cyl got the BW 78 diff in mid '85 but the V8 didn't get it until the VL.
It will most likely be an open centre 2.60 (check the body plate - opt. code

Ive recently put a 10 bolt (open center) salisbury in my VH. The rear left wheel rattels on decelaration. Ive taken it to mechanic and they recon these diff just do that. Something to do with the internals in the crown drive. Anyone recon they know what t

What the Doc noted is correct. All VK V8s got the large salisbury diff from the factory (only the 6s went to the BW78 in '85).
You can easily pick the large sals by it's cover - it looks like an egg on it's side.
