Thanks guys yes it was a 3 speed on the column thingy, Im 42 and new to this motor stuff I had a m21 fitted today does anyone sell a kit so to replace all those bits that connect the clutch pedal to the gearbox, you know like the brake cylinder thing on the fire wall. I hope to get rid of all those messy things I saw this setup on a HD holden.

Castlemaine Rod shop in Castlemaine VIC for the hydraulic clutch conversion. I hope for your sake that the box isn't an M21. If it is you'll be cursing everytime you try to reverse of take off on a hill.

Why you say that Byron whats wrong with the M21 the guy at gearbox bussiness who sold and fitted it behind me 253 saids its the best box available.Its a fully rebuilt exchange unit and I paid $900.00 fitted.

Byron, also curious why you thnk the M21 is no good? its the same box as an M20 just slightly different ratios

To answer the question you posed Byron. There is no real difference in strength between the boxes.


The M21 is simply too tall for a 6 cyl with a tall diff, unpleasant to drive & very hard on clutches.

Dr Terry answered exactly for what I was trying to say. An M21 behind a 253 is also a pain in the proverbial, especially in a big car like a HQ, unless you have a 3.55 diff or lower ratio.
