I was looking at purchasing a set of 8inch metal Commodore rims, Im told they have been widened as they only went to 7inch. How are they widened and is it legal to do so. them

It is legal to widen rims provided they are done correctly.

The first and best way to do it is to cut off the original rim & then weld the centre into a new wider rim.

The second way is to cut half of the rim off with a lathe & weld a wider half r

legally you can run the wider rim but not off set the track by more than 50mm either way.

Legally the RTA allow the track width to be up to + or - 25mm.

Track width is measured from the centre of the left tyre track to the centre of the right tyre track.

that is the offset can only change up to 12.5 mm either way.
