OK folks, here is a question and comment I need an answer too ! Both are HQ's. So identical body and weights.
Why can a 253 Holley equipped motor, 4speed 3.08 and twin 2" exhaust get 26mpg on the freeway ? Usually 19mpg around town.
Yet a 253 WW-Stromy with a Traumatic, 2.78 rear, single 2" get around 14mpg around town ? And I think its a generous 14 too !
Is it purely better breathing that is doing these neat numbers with the Holley ? LIke what would a Quadie do 29mpg ?
Comments welcome..John

Could be due to alot of things, the traumatic wont help of course, could also be the state of tune, general conditition of the engine/ignition system, how heavy your reight foot is, it can change from car to car without realising becuase of how loud a car

Does both cars have the same driver? If not maybe one of the drivers has a heavyer foot :-) All jokes aside the main problem would be the trimatic, a standard one from memory can suck up around 20% of the engians horse power to operate it, so the engine h

Same driver (me) - bog standard ignition in both, not a leadfoot. Holley is a 2 barrel, single fuel inlet type with a #61 jet (if that helps).
I am getting the bugs out of the Q with the traumatic. Lots of things to sort out. Came with twin exhaust fr

2.78's are great on the open road but they are not so good around town unless you have bulk torque which the 253 hasn't got. the trimatic if working at its best wont sap much more power than a manual over all. i have a one ton ute with a warm 308 tri and

More info will come soon. I have found one prob caused by aging with the donk just sitting unused for years. I did expect to find bugs once it got on the road. So no real dramas here.
And one other problem which I should've seen ages ago, and certainly
