I'm restoring an HG Premier, but although I have the Gregory's handbook, it's pretty useless when it comes to anything non-mechanical. I need to know how I can remove and replace the rubber window weather seals (inner and outer) on the 4 doors AND the tailgate. I need to remove them for painting, and replace those which are perished. The only way I can see is to get in a flathead and bend out the clamping strip, but I dont want to do that without checking if that is the correct method. Any help appreciated, if it's involved and too long to write up here, e-mail can be sent direct to " [email protected]" Cheers all!

You should be able to get the parts and advice from your nearest Rare Spares outlet.

Mmm... Rare spares ask over $1400.00 for a "kit" of rubbers, which I am not willing to pay (if I fully restored and sold the car, I might just make back my money on the rubbers kit alone), and I doubt they give advice for free (not like the kind souls who

Are you talking about the rubbers where the window goes between about the position where you would put your arm when cruising

Hi HG Tank,
As Rares has mentioned, you nearest Rare Spares outlet will be able to steer you in the right direction as far as fitting them is concerned.
The price you quoted $1400 would be a bit much. A sedan rubber kit is retails for around $1100.

Ahh yes - I think door belts is the one. The rubber seals that stop water getting into the door on each side of the window base. Yeah, about where you rest your arm whilst cruisin'. ;)
Ok, thanks for the help - rare spares it is. $22 for a door window

Just out of interest HG, did you find out how to replace the door belts. I rang Rare spares today about getting new ones.
Can you replace them without removing the door trim/lining?
Cheers Nicko

It is easier to do the belts by removing the trim and lowering the glass further.Rares should help with advice and if still in doubt ring Bob (03)93054000 for guidance

It would be nigh impossible to do without removing the interior trim, but possible to do without removing the glass, although is much easier with everything removed.
I'm repainting the door after having repaired rust damage, so I've removed everything

HGTank, Just as a point of interest, (as a lot of people think), these door belt rubbers are NOT designed to keep water out of ur doors, but to support the window glass when sliding. The drain holes in the bottom of ur doors ARE designed to let water out

Ahh, very interesting to know.
Am aware of the drain hole problem - to deal with water on the inside I plugged the drains and coated the entire inner with bitumenized (sp?) rubber compound.
Took a few goes to make sure the rubber skin was completel
