Hey all,

I am thinking of adding a gilmer belt drive system to my XW (351). Other then correcting belt throwing problems i can't seem to find any other benefits. Also other then the $350 it will cost, there doesn't seem to be any negatives.

Can those of you who use a gilmer drive enlighten me - What pros/cons have you come across in using a gilmer drive and how streetable are they?

Cheers

Be careful with gilmer belt setups. Because of the lenght of the pullies, there is more leverage than normal on the shafts of the water pump, alternater etc and I have seen them sheer of due to over tensioning. I was once following a friend to a car sho

they usualy run the gilmerr set up for alt /wpump/crank.

but when you incorporate air con etc, they usually run gilmer to crank/w/pump etc and run a v belt to other accesories you can buy gilmer kits with a 'v' groove in them to take a 'v belt also wit

I've been running a gilmer belt system for years,it's on a 351 clevo(no pwr str or air con).

As far as I'm aware you should'nt be tensioning up these belts like a normal fan belt, they should be a little bit loose,I was told about 1/2-1 inch free play i

It sounds like the alt brackets are flexing. As the belt is pulled over the water pump pulley by the crank pulley it will tend to pull the alt pulley towards the water pump pulley which in turn will make the belt run towards the front of the alt pulley. The
