hi, just a quick question.

i have what sounds like a lifter that gets stuck every now and then, usually while cruising, it will be ok then just starts ticking quite loud. it will just go away by itself usually in 5 mins, has only done it 4 times in the last 2 months but it bothers me. is it safe to drive or can a pushrod fall out with out the preload ?

any temp cures for this - i have put slick 50 in but it did nothing.

i will do a new set of lifters soon but am going away for easter in it.. may take some spare lifters and a vally gasket set hey ?

If it's a Holden V8 then my opinion is you're due for a new cam, lifters and oil pump. This is very common on Holden V8's, normally caused by oil pump wear. If it's something else then it may just be a failing lifter, but I'd lay money the cam journal isn

i think its just the lifter, as the oil pressure is brilliant, has a new mellings pump and the motor / cam / bearings are about 20,000 old. the valve train is all crane. every thing else is perfect just that lifter gets stuck temporarily.

I dont believe the push rod will fall out as I've never heard of this hapening. Just don't do excessive rpm. I've see lifters totally domed/dished in from where even to the point a hole apears in the body and cam lobes virtually round and yet still no pus

If it was my engine and its general condition was as you have described, I'd be putting a new set of lifters in.
Something you could try......When doing an oil change, run the engine with 25% auto transmission fluid in the oil for a few minutes before yo

I tend to agree with the worn cam lobe theory, but when you pur in yopur new cam make sure you put in new lifters and use plenty of cam honey and run it in properly.
Take off the rockers covers and make sure all the pushrods are rotating, even if slowly,
