Hi all, I have just had a fair bit of work done to my engine and got her started yesterday, but shes running a bit crook. Work done is new lumpy cam, new timing gear, heads fully serviced, new leads, plugs and a 2500rpm stally, also put a factory reco 750 vac sec holley and new inlet manifold. When I start it it fires up great, but after warming up for a few minutes it gets real fumey and just backfires when I try to rev it a little, it seems to idle nicely but wants to stall after it warms up. Things I checked so far are, leads are hooked up properly, all cylinders are firing, choke is off, points are set as they were before work was done (twin point mallory). Hi Guys.
If you've already checked the obvious like air leaks etc, your problem is the lumpy cam.
Depending on how 'lumpy' it is you will have to give it heaps of fuel & initial timing at idle to make it run & perform off idle.

Thanks Dr Terry,
I got a timing light today and set the timing, adjusted the mixtures on the holley and things seem a fair bit better now.
Only thing now is every now and then it backfires thru the carby when i give it a boot full, I'm thinking the

Hi Funda.
If that's the Graham Silk in the ACT, get him to set-up your dissy & carby.
I've raced against him plenty of times, he knows what he's doing.

Yes its the same Graham Silk, he did the work on the motor for me and was sposed to come round and set it up last tuesday, but he didnt turn up and I havnt been able to contact him since then for various reasons.
I'm prolly jumping the gun a bit trying

The other trick I found with the lumpy cmas was that in order to get it to idle, the primaries were open so far that the idle mix wasn't being activated by the butterflies, and meant that idle screws were way too far out.
Try opening up the secondaries
