G'day All,

Could someone please tell me what the go is with cold air inductions, my 202red has one, just made from a mix of water pipe and flexible rubber hose, but today I was told by a mechanic that they increase your fuel consumption, but I have been told also by other mechanics that cold air is good and makes the engine more efficient, so what gives here? what the- hey? now I'm confused, should I leave it there or take it off. Appreciate any advice thanks.

I have a cold air induction feeding from behind the grill on the HQ to a Brock aircleaner. Three weeks ago I removed the ducting to test the effect on consumption. Since removing it I have found 1-1.5 mpg poorer economy. My guess with mine anyway in a rea

Cold air intakes (CAI) work! Cold air gives a better(dense) air/fuel mix in a HOT engine, and therefore better performance. Hot air should make the air/fuel mix richen up, not increase fuel consumption. So ur mechanic may mean richness, not consumption. A

I am looking for something like CAI for my car. It has a 350 chev with a lot of mods in a HQ coupe. The problem I have is that I have a Victor Junior manifold with a Holley 750 dp carby with a 1 inch spacer. I have a large drop based air cleaner on it b

Russ Hx,
TruBluhq is right,CAI's do work, but the one ur describing (Water pipe n rubber hose) sounds dodgy (probably a half hearted home mader). Your mechanics probably just judging the one you have, unless he's from the stone age or just outta tech.

You may need to go back to the LH Torana era and 74/5 Bathurst. The Ford's at the time had cutouts/scoops in the bonnet. The Torries had these big scoops at road level. Both were CAI. But the Torries apart from pickin up bugs and grit also picked up "oomp

Russ HX,
I don't think it'd be ur carb so much at highway revs. I'd look at the springs on ur mechanical advance in ur dizzy, they or maybe just one may be broken or streched (makin ur dizzy advance too much too easily as ur revs increase).
