There is a white plastic connector on the ecm loom right near where the ecm plugs in. It looks like this:

| H - - A |

As far as I know you then use a normal induction/ pickup timing light and set it to 10deg BTDC as you would with a normal dissy.

you cant set the timing, just check it.
timing can only be "set" by re mapping the ecu.
if you move the dizzy (thats even if you can) the ecu will reset it to 10degrees anyway.
if you check it and its not at 10 degrees, then start fault finding.

To the best of my knowledge, once you are in diagnostic mode you need to set the timing to 10 degrees manually.....if it isn't already on the 10 degree mark.
This is the base timing that the computer works off.
In other words, the computer does the rest

Hi Guys.

Taz2 is correct, the base timing must be set to 10 degrees BTDC manually, the computer then bases all its dynamic timing on this.

If you set the dissy to 5 degrees BTDC, the whole timing map will be 5 dgerees retarded. The ECU can't over-ri

So, for arguements sake, if the timing is say at 11 deg, the whole injection curve will be out? So the car will run like a dog?

Yes, to the best of my knowlage the computer advance map curve is set. And it is based at the 10degree set point. It dose not have any referance point like the crank sensor like the V6. So if yor base settings out the whole advance curve is out as it can'

Ahh, so i slowly keep learning! Thanks for your replies, as i said earlier, my timing light is at work so the timing is set as close to 10deg as possible, judging by the position of my mates. Mine isnt pingin or anything, and it runs ok so i cant be too f
