Hi guys,
I've got a stock 6cyl auto VL and it's dyin on me! Everybody I talk to tells me there's somethin else wrong with it but I don't want to go and buy a heap of parts that I may not need cos I can't afford that. So thought somebody might have an idea:
Basically, everytime I drive it somewhere it dies. Doesn't matter what speed I'm at, there's no warning, it just stops so I've gotta try and make it roll to the side of the road. Really great when it happens in an intersection. Sometimes it'll come back on straight away, but most times the engine turns and that's all. Sometimes it won't start again for a couple of days.
I've been told it could be the fuel pump, but then somebody else said it wouldn't make it completely stop like that, that'd run rough before it'd make it stop. Other people have said it's electrical, but they don't know what.
Any ideas? It's drivin me mad! (Sorry it's so long)

Hi Lexy,
Here are MY rules for a VL owner ! (I've had one) Rule #1 - What ever you do...do the cheapest things first ! Rule #2 - NEVER EVER wash the engine bay. Dust is good on a VL engine.
Things I would do are: (1) check all electrical connect

Hi Lexy,
John has it pretty well covered.
From your despcription, the first place that I'd look is the join in the wiring loom at the front of the motor (the first join in the wires from the dizzy). Make sure this joint is clean and tight. It is a k

Crank angle sensors can also give trouble. Next time the car is running okay, wriggle the wiring connections and distributor base to see if that causes the engine to stop. Another thing you can do, remove the fuel filter and empty its contents (fuel & a |

Hey,
Thanks for all your replies. I'll see if I can get those codes tonight. It hasn't stopped in a whole day! Not that that really means anything... But yeah I'll get those codes and post them up asap. Thanks for your help.

Lexy,
If and when u start to look for the fuel filter....its inside the axle well. So u'll need to jack up the ass end and work from underneath.
Also how many Kms has the car done ? Has the timing belt been replaced or inspected recently? The engine

I would be inclined to replace the crank angle sensor but I do have one question. When your car cuts out do you lose all electrical power? If you do it could be a problem with your fusible link. IT is in the wiring coming from your positive battery termin
