The reason why I asked is that both VN's I have driven so far have had a bit of play (not too much but a bit, you could hear the click, click, click when rocking the wheel side to side either way when stationary.)

Bearing in mind, this is where the max load is affected on the rack. In the case of a kirby bishop rack, as in your VN it is a variable ratio rack and they do tend to knock a bit more than others.
