Hi
I am thinking of putting a 5 speed behind my 350. What would be the best and easiest way to go a Supra box or a T5

I don't think either will handle the Chev, unless you are very kind to it. You are better off with a Tremec or stick with a 4-speed Muncie. |

Horsepower isn't the issue, although it's derivative - torque is the killer. A W57 Supra box is standard behind an engine that probably produces more horsepower than your 350, but probably only half the torque. Most gearboxes that get referred to as 'Supr |

if you are going to use a supra box spend the extra and go the supra turbo box it is a lot stronger and the conversion kit will be the same price only the box will be more expensive

Hi Guys.
It seems in the USA that the name Tremec has been applied to all the boxes we previously knew as Borg-Warners. Maybe they simply bought the company out.
What Taz2 was eluding to, is that a Borg-Warner T5 could now be referred to a a Tremec |

Well, yeah....I thought that Tremec bought out Borg Warner.
So what is a T56?
Just a 6 speed T5?
I was under the impression that at least a T56 was a pretty strong box (thought the T5 was too), and that is why HSV put them in their Club Sports. |

I don't know where you'd get the specs for a Supra or Turbo Supra box, but if you go here: http://media.gm.com/divi...ual_trans_specs.html#mm6 these are the specs for the current T56 Tremec. Cheers...Dav

Did you notice that both the T56 & Getrag use dextron 111? |

Hi Ok I have decided not to go with a 5 speed. The problem I have is that I have a 9" with 3.7 gears and a turbo 400. I have my eye on a turbo 700 out of a 95 corvette. Hi Rick.
The 95 Corvette TH700 will be a 4L60E electronic box, same as VR Commodore & later. Good box, but only if you have the engine ECU to run it, too much work if you don't.
Try & find a 4L60 which is the TH700 box out of a VN/VP/VQ/VU Commodore |

Thanks Dr Terry,
I noticed in the pic for this gearbox that it has a multi pin connector. So would it be difficult to set it up? I will look around for the other box you mentioned.
