Hi guys, I'm really hoping someone out there can help me.
I'm female and know nothing about cars so you'll just have to bare with me but.... here's my problem:
The car was being driven down the free way & just stopped, no warning. Had to get it towed home and it still won't start.
Here's what I do know:
Its a VN stage 1, auto, V6 89 year model. I think?
It is getting fuel so I know its not the fuel pump.
From what I found out its either the crank angle sensor, the computer or the coil pack. What I don't have any idea on is how to know which of these things it is (with out spending a fortune).
Any ideas?
There's been a crank angle sensor bought for it but my partner & I don't know how to get the harmonic balancer off without a rattle gun. Are there any tricks to getting around this?
I've been told there is an ignition module( I'm guessing thats in the coil pack) could that be a problem?
To be honest I don't really have a clue.
If there is anyone out there who has understood a word I have just said (I know I don't lol) your help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

I would suggest taking it to GMH as a first step. It is a towaway job !

Do whatever is cheapest first, but in this case you dont have much option unless you have a good wrecker close by.

If you cant afford to fix it, then sell it. Buy a car that yo

Be careful about playing around with crank angle sensors in a V6.
You need to have the correct air gap when fitting these, so really you need a qualified (preferably GM) mechanic.
Getting the harmonic balancer off is not easy.....you need the correct pu

it is very simple to test and diagnos your vn.

it is as simple as putting a pin or piece of wire in the diagnos plug (shown on the site)

Im with andrew, chech out the Cam shafts, I have seen a couple of broken ones in the VN's. We had to diagnose what was faulty, all the electrics come out fine and then we thought we might just check under the oil cap and the valve closest to the passanger

I had a similar problem... The coil Packs on the earlier VN's are renowned for "packing it in" I have seen it myself on at least 4 VN Commodores.

It is an easy part to "swap" and could save you hundreds of dollars.
