Hi all,

Someone was just telling me something disturbing - that in Australia, Govt. is pushing for new laws which will essentially prevent me from being allowed to drive my 1970-made car.

Something about limited registration options, or possibly taking them (vintage vehicles) off the road completely.

Anyone got any information on this, and are there any ways in which I can express to the people proposing said laws exactly how I feel about such a stupid idea?

Sure is.

I'm not a P-plater, and my car isn't going to be a hotted up V8...

I just want to restore my car so that it looks good, sounds good, goes OK, gets me to work monday to friday, and will take me and the wife round Australia one day. The whole

I think it's time for a new pollitical party which actually represents the majority of the population, not just a few bleading hearts & leaf eaters!!! otherwise I might have to ride my cow into the high country to dig up my cash of semi auto rifles, then

My guess is it will never happen. If we can't/won't stop whale slaughter then how are a House or Reps or Senate going to force us off the road.
Not being able to drive a V8 is a joke. Basically as a P-plater you can't drive a 253 1-tonner, but are allowe

Firstly this idea has been presented and rejected in the USA and Europe.Yes the car companies would like older cars off the road so you buy new ones but we have a healthy restoration market in Australia. The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (A

Id like to see them remove mine. I drive a 1955 model that pollutes less than a 2005 model commodore thanks to the LPG conversion. So if they are really serious about pollution should they have todays laws changed. A 1955 model car with less emisions, be

I dont think our government lives in the real world, all the above arguments are very sound but I have to stop and wonder about old age penionsers and workers under $25,000 a year. Not only is the price of fuel high and rego and insurances on the increase

Part of the issue is the "Greens" pushing for older cars to be put off the road due to emissions etc.It is also recognised that our Car Park age is about 11.5 years on average,so that indicates that there are a lot of older cars out there. It should be ac

My godfather bought a Mercedes in Germany and drove it around Europe and planned to sell it when he got to Croatia.

When in Croatia they wouldn'e allow him to register the vehicle because it was over seven years old. It didn't matter what it was any v

A lot of older cars don't get driven every day so they make less total pollution & then there are the

StephenSLR,

In the "old country" as you say, they had some real neat stuff too. Like real ex-WW2 tanks in mint condition ! They just came out of the tunnels and off they went. And what happened to these unique pieces of military history ? The UN wanted

Having worked in the wrecking game, the word around here is that rwc will be harder to get as some changes are being made to make it harder for pre 70's cars to be registered. Also with reguards to registration...in the next 10-15 years they say that the
