I am looking at buying an ex s.a police car 79 HZ its a 253 auto still in the original police car blue its stock and has been in the same family for 23 years , does anyone know if these cars had any tweaks like suspension , drive train , diff etc. The car still has its original books and history.

They came from GMH with a different speedo, 2km inciments and extra wiring for lights.
other than that they were the same as any other HZs
The SA police may have put on other modifications.

I knew a guy who had an HQ ex detective sedan and it had a bullet proof windscreen. It had a very pale green tinge through it and looked thicker. Well that what he told everybody? But noticeably differant.

it does have the police pack dash with the different speedo and tripple cluster guage with needle guage for oil and temp with the fuel guage, years ago a friend had such a car and was told by a mechanic the car had extra bracing in the front ? and a long

The extra bracing referred to I'd say is the 2 tubular rods fitted from the crossmember part out to the chassis. I have seen a few HZ chassis with these fitted (commercial ones usually), and a HZ chassis my mate across the road owns has the holes already |

okay , now I know what he`s on about my WB van has them fitted. I`m trying to find all the info I can about this model ex-police as the car is an easy restorer as its quite a tidy unit plus the fact from 145 members in our holden club it would be the only

I don't know about old pics from that era, but you could keep your eye out for old Aussie movies or TV shows from the late 70's based in SA and one might pop up.

You can contact GMH Customer service,give them the VIN number/ID number and they will send you a letter confirming build date,location and extras.It usually works better if you tell them what you are after in the details.

I have picked up the car with its books which also have original owner as S.A Police Dept. I was suprised however to find out the motor its running is the original unit to the car , according to the speedo only done 246000 . it still has its mesh sunviso
