Hi,

Just filled up with Octimax (my usual fuel), and suspect it may have water in it... I'd like to try the "metho" remedy. How much metho should be added to a full 55L tank? I'm guessing about a cup won't hurt, but will it do the job?

Any advice from those who have tried it?

A cup is fine, maybe even 2 ,I used to use half a cup in my motorbike and that only holds about 10-12 litres, and yes it does work, dissolves the water into the fuel, also boosts your octane slightly, but not enough to make much difference.

Hi Jason you can go upto and above 1-4 1part metho to four parts fuel but a bottle will do the trick ( 500 ml ) have seen 50 - 50 mix on really bad fuel but also shot flames ( not to good for the paint ) Cheers Jim

try next time the new fuel vortex 98octane(caltex),i use it in my hq & vy,fill the difference,cheers.

Actually I *have* been recommended to move to BP Ultimate, or Caltex Vortex, instead of Optimax, because Optimax has a shelf life of 28 days after manufacture. Ultimate and Vortex supposed to be a fair bit longer. Takes me 2 months or so to go through a

BP is the way to go if you have any problems with water they dont argue about paying for repairs and there pumps are calibrated often I know because I have a mate that repairs and calibrates there pumps

how does that disolve water in the tank? I had no need for my flashlube bottle anymore so I filled it 50/50 water and metho, with more metho can I get these flames? sounds cool! hopefully without engi

Hi Guys.

The problem with water is that it won't mix with petrol & stays in separate 'lumps' & when it collects in your carby it causes corrosion if it stays there too long. If it would mix with the petrol it would be a form of water injection right. I

Hi Dr Terry,

I thought that ethanol was not good for older cars in that it rusts metal fuel tanks and corrodes aluminium carbies?

I think most ppl here only with older Holden's use PULP or higher grades of fuel. We eastern staters got rid of LRP a while back. And ULP you wouldnt go near unless you are desperate. Just add some valvemaster, Redex or Nulon upper cylinder lube and away

Thanks John and Jason, I am looking at the hardened valve seats - am currently having a red SC head done so will find out how much extra it will be. It is 12 port with L34 valves.

BP supply all fuel in WA because Good News Geoff has decreed a special "cleaner" mix for our petrol and no one else in the world uses it except maybe some obscure Upper Slobbovian backwater.
