Hello all I was wondering what recourse I have against Ford Australia for fitting what looks to be the wrong engine to my car when they initially built it?
I have a 1992 EB2 manual wagon. I know where it's been from day one as it was a colleague of mine's company car for it's first three years then it was his wife's car for the next three & the last 6 1/2 it's been my car.
When changing the clutch a few weeks ago I had the flywheel off for machining so I decided to remove the sandwich plate & inspect the rear welch plug. Well blow me down the welch plug had a sticker on it which stated that the engine was a 3.9 MPFI Auto unit (not bad for a 4 litre MPFI manual car).
I wrote to Ford Australia & they replied with "We can confirm that according to our records, the VIN: ********** does belong to an EB Series II Ford Falcon. This vehicle was originally built with a 4.0 Litre OHC MP EFI engine and 5 Speed Manual Floor transmission.
We are unable to comment on its present specifications or condition as modifications or alterations may have been made to the vehicle since its production."
I then answered this email stating that if the engine had indeed been replaced (which is completely out of the question) then the replacement engine has had the original engine number stamped on it & they should report me to the police immediately.
I am still waiting for their answer.

Are you saying that the car definitely has a 3.9 fitted or are you just going on what was on the welch plug?
I don't know for sure but it is always possibe that the 3.9 and 4 litre engines use the same welch plug kit.

It's not like they put in a 302 instead of a 351, follow up on what Munromad2004 said and then maybe just let it go, what are we talking 0.1 of a ltr. if your happy with the car, enjoy it! let's not going suing everyone like the American's do.

You'll find the 3.9 and 4.0 run the same welshplugs. It'll be a 4.0 thats possibly had the welshplugs done or the sticker not removed.

The sticker is over the wech plug not on it. It would have been used to identify the engine at the vehicle assembly plant. My guess is that Ford had too many 3.9's left over at the end of the EB1 & so they basically just ripped everyone off that bought an Edited by user Monday, 4 July 2005 10:45:36 PM(UTC)

There should be able to tell externally but you may have to remove the cyl head and measure the bore and stroke. XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected] |

JIM, I DOUBT THAT IF FORD HAD TRYED TO FOOL US ALL BY PUTTING DIFFERENT ENGINES THAN STATED IN THE CARS THAT WE WOULD BE FIRST FINDING OUT ABOUT IT 13 YEARS LATER.
WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS STAMPED ON THE FRONT OF THE HEAD. THIS MIGHT GIVE YOU AN IDEA AS TO
