Hi all,

Will the column shift linkages currently connected up to an M15 3 speed on a HQ ute also work with an M20 4 speed? ie - can you simply change gearbox and hook up the same linkages?

Might be a stupid question - I've never looked closely at a column shift holden... but am considering an interstate purchase unseen. Wondering if a gearbox upgrade is easy enough.

I'm assuming the bellhousings are the same...

A 6cyl Aussie 4-speed (ie M20, M22 or rare XU-1 or VB rally car M21) will bolt in exactly where an M15 all synchro 3-speed fits. The column shift linkages do fit from memory but then you have a 4 on the tree with no reverse. With an M15 the rear selector/

Can be done but I have only done this by changing to a Mazda L300 column and then made my own linkages, and the swap was from an auto also. The problem you will have is thagt the HQ column only has the "gate" to suit the three speed ( only four spots 1,2,

I've done this years ago in a V8 HZ 3 speed Sdn to a 4 speed. just replace g/box and hook up the reverse light s/w. Get some cardboard and make a template for the hole in the floor. I drilled 4 corner holes and then jig sawed between them and dressed it u

Rares also sell the floor shift column shroud for HJ-HZ, not sure about HQ.
