Can anyone tell me if I can use a good crank from a 173 in a 186 rebuild.

yes however if you have the choice a blue motor 202 crank would be a better option for power aswell as a more smooth running engine

You can, but make sure that the rear main seal is the same. Early 173 motors have neoprene if memory serves me correct, and the later reds and blues are rope.
As Cut55 says a blue motor 202 crank is a good option, but then you will have a 202 not a 186.

The 202 blue crank is a good crank, but it won't fit into a 186 block.

I'll rephrase that.

The 202 crank won't fit straight into a 186 block.

A good crank grind these days isn't as cheap as it used to be.
