Will a level 3 dash cluster from a VR / VS fit a VN with a level 3 cluster? I know they will physically fit, but will the pinouts be the same?
Also.... What is "Hydratrak" I know it is found in VR etc IRS diffs, but exactly what does it mean?
Over to you Mick..... :-) |

The pinouts are different Bruce, and putting a VR/VS cluster into a VN/VP or vice-versa can result in a smokeshow as it shorts the voltage reg to earth!
What is wrong with your cluster at the moment?
The trip comp module pinouts (plug #4, under the |

I have a VR HSV V8 250kmh speedo I want to put in the VN. The rest of the cluster is fine although the LCD panel on the LHS is slowly showing black areas. |

Hi Taz2.
As commodorenut has stated, the VR assembly will not work in a VN. The pin-out is different at the plugs on the rear & you will get a nice display of smoke if you try.

In that case mate, all you need to do is undo the 2 or 3 brass screws on the back, open up the cluster, and swap over the speedo itself - this you can do between models as the circuit "board" (the flexible green part) is what is different, the actual inst |

Thanks guys. I thought that the circuit panel might be different. Nice to know I can now fit my nice new NOS HSV speedo in :-) |

Could you just put the circuit board off the VN/VP onto the VR/S cluster & have all of your guages new rather than just a new speedo? Edited by user Monday, 11 July 2005 11:17:18 PM(UTC)

Okay....changing circuit board seems an easier/better way. Thanks for the suggestion Jim :-)
Now....where is the kms (mileage) recorded & stored? Is it in the circuitry in the actual speedo that can be changed over?
Or is it in the LCD module (on |

While I'm on the subject....may as well make a pig of myself..... What is the difference between a V6 dash & a V8 dash....is it just the tacho, or is there other differences? If you just swapped the tachos, could you turn a V6 dash into a V8 dash? |

OK, point form will be easiest:
* The km are kept in the trip computer module. You can remove it from the cluster, it's just a long thin white box. Therefore you can keep your trip comp & it's odometer reading, and put it in another cluster.

Oh - just swapping the actual speedo - if you put the VR speedo in the VN cluster then the odometer reading in the VN will remain what it was.
The speedo itself has no bearing on the odo reading in the L3 dash, it's just like any other gauge say like |

Okay....got all that thanks Mick :-) Now...I've discovered that if you want to change just the plastic printed circuit boards from VR to VN, you also need to change the small circuit board in the top of the dash cluster housing. VR has 9 pin connection t |

What's involved in fitting a VX/VY dash into a HZ? Has anyone done this before? lanning a custom interior, and the standard commodore gauges will do nicely.

VX/VY are driven off the PCM in a VT/X/Y/Z.
You would need to run the VT-VZ computer just to use the instruments!
If you are happy with a VN-VS one, then these are a lot easier to wire up. The fuel, temp, tach etc are wired like the HZ, and the onl |

Thanks 'nut; much appreciated. VN-VS one should be okay - just didn't fancy a dash full of cheapo-looking gauges. I want the dash to look like it could have been standard in the car.

In that case Luke, keep your eyes open for a VN or VP cluster, as they are a little easier to convert in your case.
The "level 2" cluster is probably the best one for you. It contains the centrally mounted speedo, with a tacho on one side, and a fuel |
