Hi all, recently I replaced the small, 6-cyl type Salisbury diff with a larger V8 type Salisbury diff in my WB Van. The V8 diff in question has bushes in the, how to put this, circular attachments protruding above the axles on the centre of the housing. My orig 6-cyl diff had these blanked out. I am guessing that this might be a provision for a sway bar of some variety. The ute that the V8 diff came out of had nothing connected to these.

I was wondering what model might have utilised this, and if it can be applied to my WB van, that is if it will improve handling. My Gregory's manual has no mention of any of this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Nic

They are for upper trailing arms fitted to passenger vehicles with lower trailing arms & coil springs.

They are not used in leaf-sprung vehicles.
Cheers,

The diff you have has been modified from a sedan/wagon diff. An original large salisbury housing out of a HQ-WB has thes 'blanked' like your WB small salisbury was. The sway bar on a HZ/WB attaches to the flat plates on the back of the diff housing axle t

Thanks for your information, I think that I may actually have one of the sway bars that you were talking about, Byron. Were they fitted on a Banjo? Because thats what it came off I think.

Cheers, Nic.

Possibly off a HZ 6cyl coupe ute or van. Barring VERY late HX, these were the only RTS commercials to have a banjo, but to be honest I've never taken enough interest in 6cyl HZ's to look to see if they had rear sway bars. If they did this would be how the

Just as an addition to this topic...

From the information given from Byron, and upon closer inspection I found that the V8 Sals diff that I have put in my van is indeed a modded sedan/wagon diff. Saying this I would like to find the person who modded

You must change crownwheel and pinion as a set. I would turf the whole diff assembly and replace it with an original ute/van/tonner one. What ratio was it? About the only bits you will be able to salvage will be the axles and brakes, plus the hemisphere.

Regarding diffs and sway bars in 6 cylinder HZ's, my first car was a 6 cylinder HZ van, and it had a salisbury diff with rear sway bar. My mate had a HJ van, and always said that my van handled better than his because of the rear sway bar. My advice would

ou are best off looking under the back of a HZ or WB ute/van or tonner. Even if it hasn't hot the swaybar you will be able to see the brackets on the chassis rails (really only pieces of angle iron welded to the rails). The brackets on the diff housing ca
