lpg typically produces less HP than petrol but if you build your engine to suit like higher comp heads, gas cam, timing etc, it can produce more than enough HP, + you definately need hardened valve inserts.

I am not sure if a high pressure oil pump is a good idea in a street car the cam people Crowes I think on their website only recommend for dedicated racers because the high pressure pumps can wash out the bearings. Don't forget to run the cam in properly

I hope it's an LC XU-1 cam, and not a Bathurst LJ one! She'll be a pretty cranky motor if it's an LJ version with a single Holley! I'm glad you only went to +0.060 bore - it gives you a little up your sleeve in case you need it later. |

Hi Byron.
I know I'm a bit pedantic, but.
The guy said he has bored his 179 to 186 (I assume 186 std).
If a 179's bore is 3 9/16" & a 186's bore is 3 5/8", wouldn't you be boring it 0.0625" not 0.060".

Im not entirely sure about the 0.0625" or 0.060", the motor has been rebuilt prior to my acquiring it, im only boring it a further 0.040" to get to 186!! The XU-1 cam is being chosen to suit the head, so again, im not too sure which XU-1 cam it is, but g

Piston expansion clearance!! Just joking, Dr Terry yes you are correct. I fact I'm not sure if you can buy 0.060" pistons for a 179 - I believe they are STD 186 normally at 3.625", but sold as +0.060" for a 179 if that's what you ask for. Same applies to |

are any/all these different sized red 6 blocks significantly different in casting, or is it just barrel wall thicknesses and pistons width?

Are re-ground cams any different (life and performance) to a brand newie?? To "improve" the budget i chose a re-grind instead of new, saving myself some serious $$! Same grind as the new one however!

If you are going to run a hp oil pump you need to seriously consider installing a larger sump. Without it, you may find that you've pumped all your oil up to the valve gear leaving precious little to lubricate the bottom end. |

i have put a 350holley in my 1976LX torana 192, however iam having alot of problems with a flat spot in first gear, and minor flat spots in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. any ideas?

Taz is right (hi bruce) but a high pressure pump is not necessary on a street car and can do more harm than good, as well as starving the bottom end of oil it can wash out the big ends and mains causing bearing failure. Only use if motor is high performan

I've done over 10 000kms on the motor so far and no dramas with the hv oil pump!! And the 350 Holley has been good for 14.8@95mph down the 1/4
