G'day All,
I picked up my motor today, it's a blue motor with a 12 port head, and fuel injection, its supposedly from a VK commodore, but I noticed that there is red paint under the blue paint on the block, but not the head or the sump, can it be a red motor with a blue or black head and sump? The engine No. prefix is VL, can somebody tell me what this motor was originally from this prefix? the engine no looks original, no sign of any restamping or anything.it has 3.3 on the block, not 202 like the early motors, maybe someone tried to disguise it as a red motor for EPA reasons or something then painted it blue again, who knows? any advice appreciated. thanks. Russ.

VL is a red 202 in a VB, a blue 202 in VC and VH, and a black carbied 202 in a VK. The EFI engine is prefixed VK. The way to pick a black 202 is the pad where the engine number is stamped. If it is machined flat it's a pre VK. If it is rough cast it's a b
