G'day All,
I did some work for a customer yesterday that had what was left of an HQ Kingswood sedan in the front yard, and he told me he bought it new in 1972 and only drove it for 5 months and the gearbox started clunking, and it started to rust, so he parked it in the front yard and left it there, as he said, "as a reminder never to buy another Holden".It has sat in the same spot for 33 years! Because he only lives about 1-1/2km from the ocean, Its basically a pile of rust loosely sitting on a rusted but still in one piecechassis, Ive never seen so much rust on one car in my life, the whole roof has collapsed in and every panel has all but disintergrated, you can see the engine through the still closed bonnet, the funny thing is all the plastic and aluminium parts (grille, blinkers, wheel arch trim, headlights, mirrors etc).are all sitting amongst the rust in brand new cond, albeit a bit dusty and dirty from being out in the weather , but a good clean up and they would be as good as new, when I looked at the speedo, it only had 4500k's on it! the bad bit is he refuses to sell me any peices, because he wants the whole lot to sit there until it disintergrates, as an ongoing reminder. Geez,I wish I had enough money to be able to afford to only drive a brand new car for 5 months and then just abandon it to the elements, without at least trying to make a warranty claim or fix it and sell it!made me wanna cry.cheers. Russ.

Saw a Valiant Pacer rusting away on a block right next to the beach a few years back. It was slowely melting into the dirt. What a waste. It was a 4BBL Hemi too.

Have a look at http://www.carsinbarns.com/. The behaviour obviously doesn't originate in Australia. This one in particular is upsetting: http://www.carsinbarns.c...s%20In%20Barns/pg44.html

When you sell any item to the general public you will always get a percentage of unhappy customers. Sometimes they are justified and sometimes their unhappiness is due to something going on in their head you just cannot legislate for.

Yeh thats sucks when it happens. One good thing happened to me, I saw a HQ stato (308) sitting and rusting and knocked on the guys door and bought it for 100 bucks.

What a Deal!
