Need some help guys, just picked up a diff center and pinion out of a 1979 UC torana with a 3.9 ratio and tried to fit it into a VH commodore housing. Problem is that when you tighten the caps down the axels wont slide in, undo the caps in and out not a problem. Checked the bearings and they are the same and the pinion seems to be in ok. Diff and pinion bolted up with no axels fitted turns OK, fit axels and diff sits about 8mm out. Is there a differance between the Salsbury diff in a UC to a Commodore ? Could the problem be in the pinion area ? Any help guys would be great as I cant seem to pick it. :-/

Man, if you have a 3.9 ratio out of UC, its more than likely from a SUNBIRD 4cyl - i had one! The torries only came with the options of taller diff gears!
I hope you dont snap it too soon as its not gonna be very "up to the task" of thrashing after al

The centre from a UC, VB-VH or 6cyl WB (not tonner) should be the same. The crownwheel and pinion are also the same as all banjos. |
