G'day All, I changed my oil and oil filter about 3 weeks ago, flushed it and everything, and have only done about 1000k's since then, but when I checked it today and it was black as anything already! looks like it hasnt been changed for 6 months! does this mean my rings are badly worn or what? it doesnt blow smoke or anything, except for the usual small puff if I'm really giving it some stick, overtaking or something, but I dont know too many cars that dont do that.Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks. Russ.

Hi Russ,
Black oil to me, is normal and OK even after 100Km.
The reason is that even after flushing, there are many journals and places with pools of old thick oil, like the sump. It's going to mix with fresh pretty quick once warm so I wouldnt worr

The other way to check the health of engine is to taste the oil. Not as in drink a great gob of it, swirl it around, spit it out, like wine. Just from the dipstick, get some on the finger (take the opportunity to rub it between clean fingers to see if i |

dunno about black oil being normal after 100k after oil change?...and never ever flush an old motor..example..my son just got p plates last week and i picked up a uc torana with starfire that had been regularly oil changed/serviced...176000 k..changed the |

How long sice the oil change before the one you did, Russ? If it was a long time ago, you will have lots of build-up and some really old, dirty oil in your motor that will mix with the new oil and make the new oil dirty. If your new oil has lots of deterg

valvoline XLD is also good for keeping a motor clean I have used it in my 253 since its rebuild over 10 years ago , taking off the rocker covers reviels almost nil sludge
