Hi everyone My daughters car has a problem. Its a 1995 Barina SB 1.4 litre auto, 130000kms. It starts fine from cold and drives ok but after driving a while, say 25 minutes and stopping sometimes when changing out of park into drive the enginine cuts out.It seems to happen more often if its turned off for say 15 minutes but will also happen sometimes when turned off and on straight away but it only seems to do it after the engine is warm. Also when the engine is switched off it revs a little higher when turned back on and if you wait till the revs drop and then change to drive it wont cut out,but sometimes it takes a few minutes for the revs to drop.My daughter says that sometimes switching high beam on and off will make the revs drop but I haven't noticed this, may be just a coincidence.A few suggestions have been the neutral park switch or the coolant temp sensor and 1 mechanic has taken the sensor out and cleaned it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Brian Edited by user Wednesday, 28 September 2005 7:07:55 AM(UTC)

check the connection or plug to the throttle that controls the idle air sensor. if it is dirty, it will restrict the idle air. so it will open fully (or say %50 if dirty, when cold) and start to close when warming up. if the ECU thinks it is opening it

Thank you for the reply
I checked it out yesterday and cleaned all plugs on the throttle body ie. idle air control valve, throttle position sensor and fuel pressure regulator. While I was at it I took the engine coolant temp. sensor out and tested on

Have put the new Temp sensor in and so far everything is fine. The motor is idling great no matter what temp it at. One other thing I did was was change the octane rating plug from 95 to 91.We are running it on standard unleaded now but were running i
