Hi everybody,
I've just bolted a set of triple su's to my worked holden six and have gone through all the preliminary checkup procedures mentioned in my book;
*Set the jets at .050" below the bridge (Was told to with 1.75" su as an intial guide if they're off the motor)
*All linkages are set and butterflys open equally
*No fuel\air leaks, carbys were rebuilt and fuel reg is set at 3psi

Now when I try to start it, I cant even hold an idle and it's extremely hard to get the motor firing if it even does! Also I've tried starting the thing with and without oil in the pots and same thing, very erratic running and will not idle at all if my foot isnt juggling the throttle the whole time!
I also noticed that with light tranny oil in the pots (as I was told to put in for a good mix of performance and economy), the piston is very hard to lift by fingers and doesnt smack down quickly like it should? more like a shock absorber action it seems!
Another note is that I havent set a choke as I well, dont really know how, and didnt think it was a necessity at the moment?

Please help! I need the POS back on the road and I've spent to much time and money to ditch the triples!

Were the carbies a matched set? If not you will never get them to work properly.
The piston won't "snap" down it is meant to be more like a shock absorber and should be maybe not hard but not easy either to lift with finger. With pressure from the finge

Well thanks heaps for the reply already JohnPerth, I was told to fill the pots up untill oil spills out the breather hole in the fully up position but I'll give filling them only to half a shot, makes alot more sense anyway! With the pots filled up as the

In the dashpots, I used to use 3 in 1 oil (very lightweight). Made the car more responsive. Also, there are different springs avail for the top, so just check that they all match.

Hi Nathan,

Give Roadbend Jaguar in Welshpool Road a call and ask who they would recommend to set-up SU carbies. You'll find that workshops who work on old English stuff will know about SU's as most older English cars ran SU carbs.

Alternatively, giv

No worries Nath.

You used to be able to buy a set of 4 vacuum gauges mounted on a backing plate from motorcycle shops and accessory stores (there is Helmet House in Albany Highway East Vic Park and another mob just east of where Horton Ford used to be
