G'day all, well I have searched the www high and low for the past month or more looking for info on converting a UC Torana front end to Power Steering without any luck?
I am planning on using a complete UC Torana front end under a Hot Rod project for its RTS and built-in Anti-Dive geometry and hope to fit up a set of VS Commodore Brake Rotors and Calipers, so far snippets here and there suggest using the TE/F Cortina or Camira Power Steering Rack.
Now having owned a TE Cortina around 8 years or so back fitted with TF Power Steering, altho it was a wonderful setup to steer around, I had a hell of a trip with the only mob left who reco these Racks, they sent me a botched exchange unit (supposedly their last servicable unit) that was down right dangerous then botched the rebuild on my Rack as well, it was eventually rectified but they are as rare as and expensive as gold plated Rockin' Horse poo!
The Firewall mounted Camira P/S Rack interests me as word has it that this Rack resolves a 'Bump Steer' issue with its longer arms?
Does anyone know of someone here in QLD (Ipswich/ Brisbane/ Toowoomba area) that can do a Front mount Power Steering conversion on a UC Torana front end?
Due to physical Disabilities I am keen to keep the Power Steering on the VS Ecotech V6 engine I plan on fitting to the Rod so as to ease the pain I suffer when driving non-P/S vehicles.
ANY advice muchly appreciated!

Cheers, Pig (OINKS)

Hi pig.

The Camira rack with its long tie rods will introduce hidious bump-steer unless the suspension arms match the tie rods or you fit struts similar to the Camira.

All of this is a waste of time of course because the Camira rack is a rear-mount

Hey Dr Terry, where were you when I asked this in OH? hehe
Ok, I have been told that the Camira Rack is mounted up against the Firewall so by moving it forward is supposed to keep it in its original position albeit somewhat further forward mounted to the

I like your idea of keeping the majority of factory parts - I do te same with V6 conversions.

The 11mm won't make that much difference - the VN ran the same front track as a VB-VL, yet it had a diff that was 52mm wider than VB-VK, yet it didn't suffer

Hi Guys.

Firstly, I don't think there is a TC/TD power steer rack, I have never seen or heard of one, I could be corrected here though. The TE/TF is a wider track so these won't fit.

Also my company overhauls, racks, boxes & pumps & stocks large num

Thanks Dr Terry, now THAT makes much more sense to me, I have only ever seen the TE/F power Steering Racks myself and as I discovered the threads between these two changed from A/F to Metric (I believe?) Either way I know the TE Hi Pressure hose won't fit

Yes I just finished reading an excellent article on L200 & L300 chassis, detailing all the the specs & the model differences etc. A very good read.

Yeah I have just read the same article, contemplated doing something similar but I am looking at full Rod rego so will be using the '47 Singer Roadster Utility chassis so it complies by having the original rails under it.

Ok Torana Guys and Gals, here is what I have discovered so far in my search;
Firstly I will need to source a UC Torana K-Frame so it has the solid mounted Rack and later Upper Control Arms for the Anti-Dive geometry that the earlier front ends missed out

You don't necessarily have to use a UC crossmember. You can use an early one (ie LH or early LX) and drill 4 x holes in it in the correct place to give it the same upper control arm location as a UC, plus weld on some shock absorber locating cups. It must

Thanks for the info Byron.
What I am looking at doing is using the UC Torana front suspension instead of the usual HR Crossmember under a 1947 Singer Roadster Utility HotRod project I am working on.
As I am not converting an ealier Torana, wouldn't be e

The UC front end certainly makes a Torana handle much sweeter, but if you can't find one you can do what I suggested. I've done it once before when I couldn't find a good UC crossmember that wasn't an Opel one, and it was easier to drill the four holes an

May be we need to compile a list of racks thay may just do the job (Ie front mounted). So far I can come up with:

Cortina TE/TF (apparently power racks are rare as hens teeth)
Rover SD1
Nissan 280ZX
Subaru's

Surely there has to be something mo

As you stated earlier in the post, the Cortina rack is the best option. I do not have it, but do have a friend with UC, with power steering. I'll hit him up for some of the details. Any steering/suspension place should be able to whip up this combinati
