The 5L TH700R4 from a VN or VP will go on with an adapter kit - look towards the likes of CRS or Dellow for one.
There are some wiring issues for the lockup convertor that need addressing - or simply get a regular convertor for it.

hi guys, i'm sure i have read here before (Byron?) that the 308 aussie OR turbo pattern has the same bellhousing attachment casting on the rear of the block ('cept hktg blocks), just with the bolt holes in different places, which can be filled and redri

Yes it can be done to a 253, but it cannot be done to any pre HJ blocks. The 253/308 rear casting didn't change until the HJ/LH, when the TH400 was introduced to the 308 in the HJ. As a general rule, the blocks that can't be modified are those with a neop |

if you are worried about fuel costs you may as well go to GAS as the cost of the conversion is high. Things to be considered are: (1) the block (2) possible engine/gearbox adapter plates (3) the getting of and cost of a TH400 (4) your speedo is mec

VN/VP TH700s have mechanical speedo outputs, so a TH350/400/Saginaw cable will fit. HQ-WB TH350/400 T-bars will operate a TH700R, there is just no indicator for the 4th gear. The rest is true. |

A TH400 is standard in a Statesman, from HJ to late HZ (with 308) and HQ with 350. You don't need to change anything - just use stock Holden stuff. |

Why would you bother, when it is heaps easier to adapt a V8 box, with sometimes no adaption required in the case of a TH 308 block? |

Why not just change the jets ? Around $40.00 worth.
My last fill with city driving only was 14.7lt/100kms or 19.2MPG. Almost as good as a V6.
