Hello,

I am looking at doing up my HZ wagon, shes auto with a 308 (chap I bought it off replaced the 253) the 308 is from a statesman and I am not sure of KM's., I think he changed the brakes with the statemans (disc brakes)- and took out the colum shift and put a auto in

I need to fix up some rust (the inside of the tailgate is the worst bit) - I think I could probley sort this myself - Or do you think its worth paying some one to do the job correctly??

Give some TLC to the 308, she looks a bit grubby but the mechanic said she seems ok. - I dont have the first idea on engines but I am willing to learn - I have heard of rebuilding engines when they are on there last legs - how much would this kinda thing cost???

Theres a few squeeks every now and again (I would expect this from a old car - they dont bother me but I hope I am not doing any damage to the car..

So a long story short, any advice or pointers on a restoration project would be really helpfull - I would prefer to get my hands dirty then part with cash - but I have a disadvantage of not working on engines before... If anyone had a check list for me to start assessing the jobs which need to be done to make her the Kingswood she once was would be appreciated!!!!

(Edit) - Does anyone else have problems filling the tank on the HZ wagon, I can get it about just over half full and the pump just clicks, (this is also done at a snails pace, put it on full flow and its all on the floor) ????

Thanks in advance -

Lee

Just a few pointers.
If it was originaly a 253 it would have had front disc brakes. The previous owner may have fitted the Statesman brakes, but they would have been there anyway. I assume the guy also put the auto out of the Statesman in with the 308 -

I have also recently restored my HZ wagon - The car was pretty good to start with and the end result is excellent. The rough details of the restore are posted in the Garage section. As Byron has said, it's better to get one that needs minimal body work or

I think Greg at Classic Oz Wreck recently wrecked a good HZ Kingswood 308 wagon. The body is still there I think. If memory serves me correct it was an L31 M41 with air, steer etc.
