Why do manufacturers use fusible links instead of fuses. Could a fusible link be replaced safely by a fuse of suitable capacity and how big would it have to go? thanks

Fusible links are designed so that when they blow, the 2 remaining "stumps" of conductor are widely spaced apart, to prevent arcing across from higher currents.

Thanks Mick its just something I thought of, I have just got a car which had an engine fire and I was looking at the link and wondering what else could be done. In the event of a fuse, surely the spark jumping across would be eating away at the remaining
