Hi all,
I have a fairly stock VP 5.0 litre with cold airbox, 180kw chip and extractors. The exhaust appears stock and has a few rust holes around the second muffler under the boot. I want to therefore replace at least the tail pipe, would a standard pipe section with no second muffler be too loud? Also, would it be better off just upgrading the entire pipe from extractors back and what would be a good size for this combo? Not after huge HP just wanted to squeeze the most out of what I have!
cheers,
Ben

A mate of mine did exactly what you are contemplating with his VC 4.2 Commodore. The exhaust note was quite nice and not overly loud. Another friend has a VR SS & has 2 rear mufflers one standard & one that makes the car quite loud but it is still a muffl

Yeah thanks Jim, I had the same idea of disconnecting the tail pipe to see how she sounds but who ever did the exhaust has it all welded up, well done boys. Maybe when the time comes I can cut through it to test, then patch up to get it to the exhaust pla

Might be easier to just take it down to the exhaust place. With the pipe cutters that they have the rear muffler could be off in about a minute.

I also forgot to mention that a few years ago i had a VC with a warmed over 179 in it. I was quoted for a

Ralphy5,
Keep in mind that your 'rear muffler' is not actually a muffler but a resinator, they do different things.
The muffler muffles the sound (der) and the resinator stops long lengths of pipe resinating - which is where Jim5.0's drone came from.

Yeah thanks for that, I don't want it too loud but at the moment it sounds like a stock V6. Is there much power loss by using a resonator vs straight through tailpipe. Also def do not want a buzzbox blowfly exhaust sound if thats what muffler only ends up
