Hi all, I've just picked up a very original low kilometre Belmont HQ ute (to go with the G-pak Torana). First thing I noticed on the drive home was that the standard dash doesn't have a tacho, temp, or oil gauges! (I've been spoilt with the SLR dash in the Torana...) I have plans for the ute that will mean pulling the dash out in the near future (stereo upgrade, alarm, etc), but I don't want to replace the dash, as I doubt I'll find a better condition one anywhere else. Besides... it's character! Means I don't particularly want to butcher the existing one, either. So... does anyone have any recommendations for fitting after market gauges? I've already checked out the autometer web sites, but naturally it's an American site, but I know they'll be available locally. Any advice on what to go for, and what NOT to go for? I'm not interested in great big huge tachos, just something inobtrusive that I'll fit neatly under or around the dash. Know what I mean? I'm sure this has been done before. :-) Cheers, Jason. im chasing the same idea, all gauges neat package in standard holes. i need to find a blank facia. i.e the same thing as standard but with no holoes cut so i can cut em for after market gauges.
if you want a quick simple fix however have u considered a |

I just put a set of nice small black guages in a car. Speco Meter brand. You can get them from autobarn they are a reasonable price, look good and not so cheap they look like crap.
In the limo we went for Auto Meter for top quality.

blwnhj - nah, not really keen to switch dashes, even though it's a standard dash. It's in too good condition to put it aside.
Peter.S - Do you use the original temperature sender with aftermarket gauges such as the ones you have used? Or do they come

I used the original temp sender at first and the guage showed 110 o when the fan came on. I was concerned, so I put the sender that came with the guage, which fit straight in, and the fans came on at 90 o which is correct.

it depends on wether the guage is digital or analogue reading, u can get temp guages in both and they different senders.

Thanks again guys. So it sounds like I can simply replace the existing "idiot light" sender with the one that comes with the new gauge (do I have to get a specific type of temp gauge, or do all senders fit the same standard fitting?).

I found with my ute that the 3 gauge sets (the 2 1/8 or whatever) the standard mounting plate actually wedges nicely between the windscreen and the top of the dash behind the vinyl. (I think you can get 4 gauge sets also.) The wires can then be run up t |

Hi Jason,
Have a look on Page 1 (I think) of my "Home Page". You can get a triple gauge cluster (oil/temp/fuel) to replace your current fuel gauge.
Then, just put a 2" tacho in the middle where the clock would go and the high beam warning light is.

Hey Dave,
I like what you've done - the triple gauge comes from a HQ Premier dash? I guess it's as simple as replacing the actual gauge in the dash, running some new wiring, and replacing the temp/oil senders with new ones.

Yeah, mate...a bad week travelling at the bosses' expense is better than a good week working anytime! And it was a good week travelling.

Forgot to add.... Your assessment of putting the triple gauge in is spot on. The bit of trim where the high beam warning light is located is held in by 2 or 3 screws. Measure it up.
