Hi,

What's the general consensus on where to put front (only?) speakers in a ute?

I've seen some pics of hidden front speakers, behind the door trim, with a series of holes drilled in the trim for the sound to come out.

But most I've seen simply cut holes in the trim and the door, and put them in the usual spot.

What are some of the more creative positions/methods for installing them?

I'm considering sticking with front speakers only (probably 6" 2-ways)... we'll see how they sound without a rear set.

Cheers,
Jason.

I fitted a pair of box speakers high up on the kick panels so high that the right one is above the acellerator pedal & I don't have fouling problems. You can't see these speakers either because of how high they are.

In the Torana LX I have mine mounted just above the kick panels approx. knee height, well away from feet. The right one fits snugly behind the bonnet cable.

The problem with having them in the doors is:

1. They ruin your door trims - cant change to

In my van i mounted 6 inch speakers into the kickpanels and fitted fine , this will work if your magnets are not huge , small to medium will fit.

In the HQ Ute I mounted a couple of 6.5s in the kick panels. I probably had them a bit low, and the covers were quite bulky, because I kept kicking the one on the drivers side (and kept getting interesting feedback when resting my foot there while drivin

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Still not 100% sure what I'll do. I like the idea of the kick panels, but I probably want the room down there for the central locking module. Hmm... I'm not really keen to cut open a good trim, but if I ever do anyth

Just out of interest Jason what Ute do you have? the strangest place yet I have seen front speakers mounted (in any car) would be UNDER the foot pedals facing straight up at the driver and same on pass side!
If you want a stealth setup, don't want to cut

Under the foot pedals, now that's cool! With decent enough speakers, you could rest your toe on the speaker and feel the bass!

It's a stock HQ ute (Belmont). Only just picked it up on the weekend, so I haven't really had a good look at it. Parked it

The other problem with mounting the speakers in the doors is that you have to cut the power window mounts out to mount the speaker....I had to weld bits back into my doors so I could put power windows in. Maybe you don't want leccy glass now Jason, but ma

this is how i did mine.

Head unit is mounted in a cradle i folded up from 1.6mm black steel sheet. i welded the carrier into the cradle, uses one exsisting screw and i had to drill one 6.5mm hole for a bolt on the right hand side. there is also a strap

blwnhj,

Now that was a silly Q.

Its obvious why u would hide the Stereo under the dash judging by the pics of Dylans interior, aint it ?

to hard to build out of carpet, it will be either steel or aluminum and painted or covered in black vinyl

i would have put it in the glovebox but it is too much of a reach (im not exactly tall) to adjust to volume, change CD's etc.
