Hi, can anybody tell me which way i should go with my rebuild. I have checked out other post about 202's and seen that blue crank and 12 port head is the way to go !! , but to day i was told i should just keep a standard red head on a red block as 12 port head would not make much diference , is this true !!! . i just want a motor that has resonable power and economy. the blue motor i have is a 2.8 , will parts from this motor fit a red 202 !!.

The black head is the best it has the larger valves and better porting if you get one off a carby motor you have to block the air pump ports but that is easy just screw caps in. the efi motor you don't have to. Otherwise the heads are the same. Would al

I have run a red motor for years now and would argue that the performance difference is minimal... As with economy! I just did up a HP (179) for my UC and ill tell you now, there's nothing wrong with using a 9port head! If you change to 12port, you wil

Also - you will need to drill holes in your block to suit the blue/black head.
For what you'd pay for a black head, you could spend it on working your red one to go even harder...
My car and i like to drink the same stuff... ALCOHOL! Shame i cant

Stick with the red head, but make sure you get a mildly modified one, at least with the inlet posts removed. That is unless you wish to run EFI or twin choke carbies (eg triple Webers). However you will be best off using a blue/black crank and rods. These |

If you go twelve port you can use a twelve port manifold and run triple webers off that. It is a fact New cast Yella tera twelve port heads flow better than any 9 port can. Still at a $1000 plus price tag you need to justify that. They come rady for unlea |

The 12 port head is basiclly useless unless you wish to run a set of triples or EFI. Whatever you gain with the 12 port head, you will lose immediately with the crappy manifold. AFAIK you cannot buy an aftermarket manifold for a blue/black head. Plus thes |

I think 12 port got a bit of a bad rap in the early days because they were attached to smog gear smothered blue motors too.
If you have the 12 port head, getting hardened valve seats is a must, as you would do with any cast hea these days.

Peter is right - if you are intending upon spending good $ an EFI black head is a good thing, but you will not get out of it cheap as you MUST fit hardened seats, whereas a red head will survive with a $75 upper cylinder lubricator kit (same thing as LPG |
