Hi there
I have a problem with the belt on my VS statesman,it whistles
I've had the idler pulleys renewed but nothing seems to help
being hard of hearing it not so obvious to me but everybody else
is telling me about it,I sometimes get a wire brush and while the engine idles over I lightly hold the brush on the inside of the belt
that stop the whistle for awhile but is soon back to its old tricks.
help please.
Coltina.

is it a whistle or a whine?
is it self adjusting? or does it need a tighten, thats when they tend to whine.
try spraying sum wd40 or other water displacer over whatever pulleys they belts on and the belt itself.
that helps.

Was the new alternator fitted with the same type of pulley as the old one (should have)?? had an A/C compressor changed once and they stuck a new one in with a 1 groove less wide pulley on it, so the A/C blokes changed the fan belt to a narrower one. BUT
