Do you already have your receiver/dryer and compressor and bracket? I'm fairly sure the receiver/dryer is replaced at any air-con service. They are a sacraficial item, and you don't re-use them, as far as I know.

As for the compressor, ask your local

ive been told that you cannot regas original systems of that age as they do not meet a/c gas rules or something and if you want a/c on cars in our era you have to get an updated system.
thts why i said screw the a/c and ripped it off.

Try looking at the JayAir website. They don't sell direct to the public but you should be able to get the part numbers to go into any Repco and buy a new reciever drier.

The reciever drier is avalaible over the counter at Repco. The gas you use can be a straight drop in these days, the 134a retrofit is not nessessary these days, there are plenty of new gasses and blends on the market today. I have used FR12 gas direct in

Thanks for the info Gents. I'll try the contacts provided. Normally I wouldn't bother except I'm restoring my HQ Coupe to it's factory release spec's and thats what was fitted.

The drier is definitely a replace item. They come up on Ebay every now and then for about $40. They have to be replaced because once they have been run empty or air has got into the system or over time air/water has got in and they rust inside and flakes

The monster compressor in the Qs etc is a very good compressor, just a bit clumsy. Jaguar, Rolls, and many prestige cars use them. I believe they can be easily reconned.

BLNHJ,

About 4 or 5 years ago, the aircon guy would have been right...R134A (or whatever the current gas is) was the only one allowed to be used. Now, as Warren said, there are a few that are compatible with the old oil/systems that are available.

Yeah it can be done, my HZ Prem has nice cold factory air once again, just needed to source a good evaporator unit that didn't leak, replaced the receiver/dryer and regassed with the new gas, nice cold air throught he vents again, great stuff!
