Hi all, What is the safest and most responsible way of removing an airconditioner from a car. It is an underdash model and I need to safely remove it and store it later on for my Monaro. What considerations do I need to take into account for it's safe removal and storage. Kind regards George Edited by user Saturday, 19 November 2005 11:29:39 AM(UTC)

Hi John,
Thank you for your sound advice, as I was unaware that it's illegal to unscrew the airconditioner. Better to get an airconditioner expert to undertake the necessary, whilst keeping within the restrictions and guidelines of the EPA.

i dont know about cars, but when we charge aircon systems on buses we fill them with nitrogen to absorb all the mositure in the system and check for leaks, so as long as the ends of the lines are taped up to stop dust getting in it shouldnt be a problem.

I probably should make it clear the stuff burns the skin because it is well below freezing point, it is the cold that burns, not the gas itself.

YOU NEED TO GET SOMEONE WITH A RECLAIM UNIT, they will suck all the refrigerant out of the system and store it in a gas bottle. Whether you choose to seal the pipes with tape, or plug the evaporator with nitrogen is up to you. It is a good idea to plug an
