It will happen (eventually).

I've got my VK inj Trimatic donor car.

Got mi 186 Block on the engine stand (still).

When I finally HOOK in and graft all this into my EK wagon (still runnin round reliably with the grey).

For Nostalgic reasons only,
does anyone know how "strong" the minature 3spd crash boxes really are ?

Can they hang out behind a 202 ?

Or should I just use the Trimatic (boring but cruisy) ?

Sounds silly, but in the days when a 4 on the floor was COOL, I now find younger people impressed (" or humored ") with the 3 on the tree.

U get a few smiles giving a left hand wave as u change to 2nd

I had a crash box for years behind a 202 and it was fine, but I only cruised around. If you plan on giving it stick, don't expect the box to last long at all

I've never done it, but if it was me I'd use a HK-WB all syncro 3-speed and make the column shift linkages fit. I think the shift pattern is the same. However your EK sounds like a manual and hence the tunnel will be too small - same applies to the trimat

The shift linkages crash box to all syncro 3sp work totally differently unfortunatley. It is the same amount of work to fit an aussie 4sp or a celica 5 speed.

If your EK has a manual floorpan, you will find it hard to fit much in there without floor mo

Thanks Guys,

So what ur saying (Pete) is u've seen a few smashed 3Spds? Or they just can't handle torque ?

I also want to refit the Bench seat, so at best it would save leg room by not fitting the high tunnel.

But if the Shoe-box sized 3Spds arn

The trimatic is at least as big as a 3-speed syncho, so you would need the larger tunnel for it too. The VK one will be no good either.

The little old 3 speeds are only going to last if you don't put your foot to the floor. Torque kills them.

You need to find out if your floor pan is manual or auto. I would say if it is an original manual, then manual floor it is. The only box I know o

Again -Ta,

Does any one know if the 3Spd Crashbox has any inherent weak spots like - Stripping 2nd or breaking the Input or Layshaft etc...

After 4 years (Pete) did yours sh*t itself or start taking singing lessons ?

Does the Grey Bellhousing fi

See if you can find a EK Hydramatic being wrecked and cut out the floor tunnel these are larger than the manuals.

Inherent weak spots? They are one huge continuous weak spot.

Mine was a rebuilt unit from a member of our car club that rebuilds them only for members, and it was still fine when I took it out, and in fact I believe it is still in a friends car, but he

Your best bet is to get a HD-HK 3 speed crash box and use a red motor bellhousing to fit it. The advantage with these later boxes is they had (I don't know if I have the exact terminology correct) a stronger bearing on the first gear layshaft, or was it s
